Toxic Delay Turns Advantage for Dhurandhar 2? Solo Release Could Add ₹100 Crore to Ranveer Singh Film’s Opening Weekend

The unexpected postponement of Toxic has dramatically altered the March 19 box office landscape, potentially giving Dhurandhar 2 a significant commercial edge. With Yash’s big-ticket action drama shifting to June due to concerns surrounding the Middle East situation, Ranveer Singh’s sequel now finds itself as the only major nationwide release on that date.

What was once dubbed a mega showdown between the two films has now transformed into a solo runway for director Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller.

From Mega Clash to Solo Release

Until recently, both Toxic and Dhurandhar 2 were gearing up for a simultaneous global release on March 19. Trade experts had predicted a historic box office weekend, comparing the clash to iconic rivalries of the past.

However, with Toxic stepping aside, theatre allocation dynamics have changed completely. India has approximately 10,000 cinema screens, and in a clash scenario, both films would likely have secured around 4,500–5,000 screens each. That would have limited their overall reach despite massive demand.

Now, with no direct competition and no other major Hindi release lined up for the same period, Dhurandhar 2 could potentially secure up to 6,000 screens nationwide. This expanded footprint is expected to significantly boost its box office potential.

Could the Opening Weekend Jump by ₹100 Crore?

Earlier projections suggested that in a clash situation, Dhurandhar 2 might collect around ₹120–130 crore net during its opening weekend in India. Toxic, with its pan-India appeal, was expected to dominate initial numbers, while Dhurandhar 2 would gather momentum during weekdays.

But the new scenario paints a different picture.

Trade estimates now suggest that with a clear solo release, Dhurandhar 2’s opening weekend could climb close to ₹200 crore in India alone. When overseas earnings are factored in, the overall boost compared to clash projections could be in the range of ₹100 crore.

If these estimates hold true, the sequel could deliver one of the biggest opening weekends in recent Indian cinema history.

Toxic’s Revised Release Plan

Kannada superstar Yash confirmed the postponement of Toxic, explaining that uncertainty in key overseas markets — particularly the Middle East — affected the film’s global rollout strategy. The movie is now scheduled to hit theatres on June 4.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features an ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria alongside Yash.

Dhurandhar 2 Gears Up for a Massive Debut

Meanwhile, Dhurandhar 2 reunites a powerful cast featuring Ranveer Singh, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sanjay Dutt.

As the sequel to the 2025 blockbuster Dhurandhar, the film has already generated substantial anticipation. With the box office clash now avoided, industry observers believe the film is in a prime position to capitalize fully on its release window.

Whether it ultimately achieves the projected ₹100 crore boost remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Toxic’s delay has reshaped the box office battle — and Dhurandhar 2 stands to benefit the most.
