Why Middle East Unrest Delayed Toxic but Left Dhurandhar 2’s March 19 Release Unaffected

The ongoing unrest in parts of the Middle East has led to a major shift in release plans for several big-ticket Indian films. While Yash’s Toxic has been postponed due to concerns over the region’s theatrical market, Dhurandhar 2 remains firmly on track for its March 19 release. The contrasting strategies have sparked discussions within trade circles about why one film is affected while the other appears largely insulated.

Toxic’s Strong Middle East Footprint

Yash commands a massive fan following in the Middle East, and his films traditionally perform strongly in that territory. With the current uncertainty impacting cinema attendance and distribution logistics in the region, the makers of Toxic decided to delay its release to avoid potential revenue setbacks.

Given the film’s pan-India appeal and overseas ambitions, the Middle East represents a key market for Toxic. Any disruption there could significantly influence its overall box office performance.

Why Dhurandhar 2 Remains Unaffected

In contrast, Dhurandhar 2 does not rely heavily on the Middle East market. The first installment of the franchise reportedly did not release in several Middle Eastern territories due to its subject matter and thematic elements. Despite that limitation, the film performed exceptionally well in other international regions, compensating for the absence.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted in industry discussions that while skipping a region always means some loss of revenue, the earlier film managed to offset that through strong collections elsewhere. A similar trend is expected for the sequel.

Market Experts Weigh In

Exhibitor and distributor Akkshay Rathie observed that the Middle East was never a core revenue driver for Dhurandhar. He suggested that even under normal circumstances, the sequel might have faced challenges securing release clearance in certain territories, much like the first film.

Additionally, the ongoing regional tensions may deter audiences from visiting cinemas, which would primarily affect films that depend heavily on that market — such as Toxic — rather than Dhurandhar 2.

Solo Release Advantage

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar 2 now benefits from a solo release window on March 19. With Toxic shifting its release date, the sequel is positioned to dominate screens across India without major competition.

The film features Ranveer Singh in the lead, alongside R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi.

Trade insiders suggest that the absence of competition could potentially add up to ₹100 crore to the film’s opening weekend haul in India alone.

The Bigger Picture

While geopolitical tensions have disrupted release plans for certain films, Dhurandhar 2 appears strategically positioned to withstand the impact due to its limited dependence on the Middle East market. With a clear release runway and strong domestic buzz, the sequel may turn the situation into a significant commercial advantage.
